Super Smarties : Dhiya Pillay raised over R1000 by reading her favourite stories to her dad’s collea

The Read to Feed programme encourages reading, while heightening students’ awareness that their actions make a difference in the lives of others. As students read more books, they improve their reading abilities and more families receive gifts of livestock and training.

Children (individually or as a group) get sponsors for each book (or chapter or page) they read during a time frame set by their Read to Feed leader. At the end of the programme, the group pools its funds and donates them to Heifer International to help Heifer assist thousands of families in South Africa feed their families and reach self-reliance.

Dhiya Pillay is in Grade 2 at Crawford Preparatory School in La Lucia KZN. She is tru-ly a passionate trooper. She raised funds for the Read to Feed Programme by reading to employees at her dad’s factory. Employees enjoyed listening to her read so much, that they were more than happy to make donations to ‘Read to Feed’.

Dhiya has raised over a R1000 for the programme this year. We would like to thank her for her initiative. A true superhero indeed.

At Heifer we believe that children can change the world.
