#What's Happening

Sherize Liebenberg, a learner at Crawford Preparatory School in La Lucia (KZN) has always participated actively in the Read to Feed Programme. Her  passion for the programme and determination to help end hunger and poverty is an incredible affirmation of Heifer’s belief that young people have the power to change the world.

Sherize went on a crusade of her own to raise fundraise for Heifer International South Africa's Beekeeping initiative in Blouberg, Limpopo. She visited a number of stores and businesses in a Durban North shopping centre. She spoke to store managers, staff and owners. Informing them about Heifer Intertnational South Africa's mission to end hunger and poverty in South Africa, her roll in uplifting the lives of poor rural communities in South Africa through the Read to Feed Programme and how they contributions can help assist rural communities.

Like Sherize you too can help end hunger and poverty in Sout Africa.

Read to Feed is an exciting adventure for children and librarians. While some children focus on reading to raise funds for Heifer International South Africa, others, like Nikhil, find other ways to make a difference. Through reading and learning, Read to Feed helps children to become everyday heroes.

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, a supporter of the programme said, ‘’Read to Feed is more than a reading programme, it is also an opportunity for children to change the world. I strongly support the Read to Feed programme.’’

Through the Read to Feed programme teachers and librarians take students on an adventure that encourages children to read and provides them with the opportunity to experience how wonderful it is to help others. Over the years, Heifers has had the privilege to work with so many extraordinary people displaying enthusiasm, initiative, courage, sacrifice, perseverance and humility in the nature of their involvement in assisting Heifer end hunger and poverty. .
